How it Works

youbreathe is the next generation of breathing training devices. It combines more than 10 years of research into respiratory muscle training and 40 years research into vibration training.

Vibration training

Vibration training originated with the Russian space programme in a successful attempt to increase the amount of time an astronaut can stay in space. Vibration training demonstrated incredible abilities to prevent muscle and bone wasting in space that eventually led to vibration technology being applied here on earth to increase exercise return on investment (Ex-ROI), greater exercise return from less time and effort put in.

Current vibration technologies include vibrating platforms such as power plate, vibro-gym and targeted vibration devices such as Exoscience’s Vibrex and user generated vibration training such as flexi-bar. Scientific support for the benefits of  these vibration devices is growing rapidly, with studies being conducted  on representative  members of the population, ranging from the elderly to elite athletes, healthy people through to clinical trials.

Respiratory muscle training

There have been many published articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals which led to the development of many respiratory training devices currently in the market. All devices showed improvements in respiratory performance and some showed improvements in endurance and sprint exercise performance. These training devices were compared to dumbbells for the lungs. Benefit has been shown in healthy sedentary, elite and clinical populations such as asthma and coronary heart disease.
